US Lawmaker To Brief White House On Persecution Of Christians In Nigeria

A United States congressman, Riley Moore, has announced plans to brief the White House on the worsening security situation facing Christians in Nigeria, with a focus on policy options aimed at protecting vulnerable religious communities.

Moore disclosed this in a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, following comments by Bishop Robert Barron highlighting the persistent killings and persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Reacting to the bishop’s remarks, the US lawmaker expressed concern over what he described as sustained violence against Christians because of their faith.

He thanked Barron for drawing international attention to the issue and confirmed that discussions with the White House were imminent.

According to Moore, the briefing will outline possible measures the US government can adopt to respond to the crisis.

He noted that the move builds on recent legislative efforts, including the FY26 National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs (NSRP) bill, which he said was designed to strengthen US security interests while promoting humanitarian values and protecting religious freedom worldwide.

Moore further revealed that the House Appropriations Committee is preparing a detailed report on Nigeria for President Donald Trump.

The report, he said, will provide facts, oversight findings, and leadership recommendations on the situation in the country, particularly regarding attacks on Christian communities.

The development comes amid growing international concern over insecurity in Nigeria, where religious violence and militant attacks have continued to claim lives and displace thousands.
