Vice President Kashim Shettima returned to Abuja on the night of Tuesday, 25 November 2025, after completing a week-long diplomatic mission to South Africa and Angola.
He represented President Bola Tinubu at the 2025 G20 Summit in Johannesburg and the 7th African Union–European Union Summit in Luanda.
At the G20 Summit, Shettima delivered the President’s address, urging global leaders to tackle recurring debt crises in African nations and ensure fair value‑addition for the continent’s natural resources.
He stressed that Africa’s economic contributions must be matched with equitable opportunities in global markets.
At the AU–EU Summit, Shettima reinforced the call for Africa to secure permanent, veto‑wielding representation on the United Nations Security Council.

He also highlighted the need for European support for African-led peace initiatives, emphasizing that sustainable continental stability requires partnerships grounded in respect and shared responsibility.
The Vice President’s office described the mission as “productive and strategic, reflecting Nigeria’s growing influence on the global stage.”
Observers noted that Shettima’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to shaping global economic policies and advancing African interests in international diplomacy.
Shettima’s return marks the conclusion of a mission aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s voice on critical global issues, including economic fairness, security cooperation, and multilateral governance reforms.
