WAEC Appoints Suleiman Kum As Nigeria National Office Head

The West African Examinations Council has appointed Suleiman Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office.

Kum, 56, takes over from Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure as Head of the Nigeria National Office ended on October 1, 2026.

Dangut has now assumed the position of Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of WAEC.

Prior to his appointment, Kum served as Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration after previously working as Deputy Registrar in the HNO’s office.

The council’s Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria, Moyosola Adesina, confirmed the appointment in a statement on Sunday, describing Kum as an experienced test developer, administrator and executive.

Kum joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II and has since occupied several senior positions across the council.

During his career, he played key roles in improving examination administration and security, including the introduction of Variable Data Printing and enhanced security features in the council’s printing operations.

He was also involved in replacing traditional attendance monitoring systems with facial-recognition biometric devices and spearheaded the delivery of Achievement Tests through computer-based examinations.

According to WAEC, Kum has extensive experience in test development, examination administration, security, as well as the management of branch and zonal offices.

He later became Director of Administration and Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration.

A native of Plateau State, Kum holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria and is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the institution.

WAEC said his career had been characterised by integrity, diligence, innovation and commitment to service.

The council added that his contributions in various positions had earned him several commendations, accolades and awards within and outside the organisation.

His appointment comes as WAEC continues to strengthen examination administration, security and the adoption of technology across its operations in Nigeria.
