The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a ₦4,000 one-off fee for verifying WASSCE O’Level results submitted by candidates seeking tertiary admission.
The arrangement, announced in a joint statement on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, is aimed at ending repeated verification of the same credentials and reducing the cost and stress associated with the admission process.
Candidates whose admissions are regulated by JAMB will verify their WAEC results through the JAMB Verification Service. Once verified, the outcome will be transmitted to the relevant institution for screening and admission processing.
The ₦4,000 charge is payable through JAMB’s designated platform, not to individual institutions. Institutions have been directed to accept verified results transmitted through JAMB and not demand another verification fee.

A candidate who successfully completes the process will not have to repeat it when the same result is subsequently used by another institution.
The new system will also allow candidates to initiate verification remotely, reducing visits to institutions and JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres.
The policy forms part of JAMB’s broader drive to streamline and digitise tertiary admissions, building on systems such as the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
JAMB and WAEC urged candidates to use the approved verification service, saying the initiative would reduce avoidable costs, simplify admissions and enhance the security and integrity of academic records.
