ANSIEC Presents Certificates Of Return To 21 Anambra LG Chairmen

The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has presented certificates of return to the 21 newly elected local government chairmen in the state.

The presentation took place on Tuesday, following the local government election conducted across the state on Saturday.

Results released by ANSIEC showed that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won all 21 chairmanship seats and 364 councillorship positions contested in the election.

Presenting the certificates, the commission’s State Chairman, Genevieve Osakwe, said the issuance was part of ANSIEC’s responsibility to formally recognise the elected officials as the legitimate leaders of their respective local government areas.

She said, “By the requirements of the electoral processes, the commission is still saddled with the responsibility of issuing certificates of return to the elected chairmen and councillors as the legitimate leaders of their local government areas.
We urge the newly elected officials to prioritise development and good governance in their respective localities.”

Osakwe also urged the newly elected chairmen and councillors to carry out their responsibilities effectively, while commending the conduct of the election.

She assured that the commission would continue to improve its electoral processes in subsequent elections.

Speaking on behalf of the newly elected chairmen, the chairman-elect of Njikoka Local Government Area, Ikechukwu Okakpu, thanked residents for entrusting them with leadership responsibilities.

The ceremony was attended by election observers, security personnel and members of the media.

ANSIEC had earlier declared APGA candidates winners of all 21 chairmanship positions and 364 councillorship seats in Saturday’s local government election.
