WAEC Extends 2026 WASSCE Registration Deadline

The West African Examinations Council has granted an extension for registration of the 2026 computer-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination, moving the final deadline to March 13, 2026.

The council said the additional time is intended to assist candidates who have encountered technical or documentation difficulties during the application process.

The announcement was released on Friday, March 6, 2026, via the council’s official account on X, where officials confirmed that the extension aims to ensure broader participation and prevent eligible candidates from being excluded due to registration challenges.

The West African Senior School Certificate Examination remains a key secondary school qualification across West Africa, serving as a prerequisite for higher education and employment opportunities.

WAEC introduced its computer-based registration system to streamline the application process and reduce administrative delays, though some candidates have reported issues with payment processing and document uploads.

Education authorities approved the deadline extension, including the minister of education, Tunji Alausa, who endorsed the measure as part of efforts to enhance accessibility and fairness in the examination process.

Candidates are encouraged to complete their registrations before the new deadline and to utilise official WAEC support channels for assistance.

The council has advised applicants to act promptly, noting that no further extensions are guaranteed.
