Charly Boy Reflects On Unusual Brotherhood With Former President Obasanjo

Maverick entertainer and social commentator Charly Boy has shared a personal reflection on his long-standing relationship with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing it as an unusual but meaningful bond built on mutual respect and shared love for Nigeria.

Charly Boy, popularly known as “Area Fada,” made the remarks in a post on his official X account on Friday, where he offered a rare glimpse into his interactions with the former military leader and statesman.

According to him, he has always regarded Obasanjo as a father figure because of the elder statesman’s vast life experiences and leadership history.

“For my own mind, I always see him like a father figure,” he wrote, noting that Obasanjo had lived “many lives in one lifetime — soldier, leader, farmer, elder.”

The entertainer added that spending time with the former president often came with lessons and stories rich in wisdom, which he likened to “palm wine carrying sweetness.”

However, Charly Boy revealed that Obasanjo has consistently rejected the idea of being seen as a father figure, instead insisting that their relationship is one of equals.

“Each time I talk like that, he quickly correct me,” Charly Boy said. “With that his usual confidence, he will say, ‘No no, Charly Boy… we are brothers.’”

Despite the difference in how both men perceive their relationship, the entertainer said the respect and connection between them remain strong.

He described their interactions as a blend of laughter, conversations and mutual understanding between “two strong Nigerian spirits.”

According to him, the relationship represents a rare form of friendship rooted in honesty, respect and a shared commitment to the country.

“Maybe that’s the magic of our relationship,” he wrote. “I see the wisdom of a father, he sees the strength of a brother.”

Charly Boy concluded by noting that such bonds are uncommon, especially between two strong-willed individuals who share the same national heritage.

“Somewhere between those two things, a rare kind of friendship took root,” he added, “one built on respect, truth and shared love for Nigeria.”
