The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a remarkable leader and a living legend whose vision continues to shape Nigeria’s future.
In a congratulatory message to mark Obasanjo’s 89th birthday on Friday in Ibadan, the Alaafin said the former president’s integrity and selfless dedication to public service remain a source of inspiration to many Nigerians.
The message, issued by the monarch’s Media and Publicity Director, Bode Durojaye, praised Obasanjo for his commitment to national development and for providing leadership that has left a lasting imprint on the country.
Obasanjo was elected president in 1999 under Nigeria’s Fourth Republic on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and served two terms from May 29, 1999, to May 29, 2007.
The Alaafin described the former leader’s life as a shining example of courage and resilience, noting that his contributions to governance and nation-building have created a path for future generations.

He added that Obasanjo’s wisdom, calm disposition and commitment to peace and unity had made an indelible mark on Nigeria’s history, while his efforts to foster progress continue to inspire hope across the country.
The traditional ruler prayed for renewed strength and continued impact for the former president, expressing hope that the years ahead would enable him to keep contributing to the nation’s development.
