The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily suspended access to its result-checking portal due to technical issues, barely hours after announcing the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday evening, WAEC stated:
“WAEC hereby informs the general public that the result checker portal @waecdirect.org is temporarily shut down due to technical issues. However, the Council is working assiduously to ensure that candidates are able to access their results in the next 24 hours. Please bear with us.”
The unexpected shutdown has left thousands of candidates unable to access their long-anticipated results, triggering a wave of frustration across social media. Many users reported receiving error messages and experiencing timeouts while attempting to log in.

Although the Council did not specify the nature of the technical fault, it assured that efforts are ongoing to restore the portal promptly.
The disruption comes amid heavy online traffic following the official release of the results earlier this week, which saw candidates rushing to check their scores.
As of press time, WAEC has yet to provide further updates. Candidates are advised to monitor the Council’s official communication channels for announcements on the portal’s restoration.
