Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has issued a warning to the police for arresting members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) members who arrested Iskili Wakili.
Wakili is a suspected Fulani criminal, said to have been terrorising the Kajola area of Ibarapa North Local Government, Oyo State.
Reacting to the police action in a statement on Monday, Adam chided the police for treating OPC members like criminals.
He claimed that Wakili was a pretender who was hail and hearty when arrested.
“He was hail and hearty, but started pretending shortly after he was captured. The detention of OPC members shows that the police are ready to frustrate the efforts of the people.
“The police that are supposed to commend the joint security team for complementing their efforts went ahead to detain them unjustly, alleging arson and killing of an unknown person.
“People are beginning to lose confidence in the ability of the police, it will be disastrous for the police to lose the respect of the people,” he said.
Adams implored the security agency to release the OPC members, and concentrate on getting rid Igangan forests and other areas of bandits and kidnappers.
Meanwhile, Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has promised a good investigation on the matter and to prosecute any party that is culpable for insecurity in the state.
