The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that passenger operations on the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will resume on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, marking the end of weeks of suspension for maintenance and safety enhancement.
The confirmation was contained in a statement signed by the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, and released in Abuja on Saturday, 25 October 2025.
According to the corporation, full service on the 326-kilometre standard-gauge line will restart with seven coaches, six for standard class and one for business class.
The online booking portal will reopen by 12:00 noon on Monday, 27 October 2025.
The NRC explained that the temporary shutdown became necessary to allow for “comprehensive system checks, track maintenance, and equipment calibration,” all aimed at ensuring safe and reliable operations.
“The suspension was part of a preventive strategy to address operational issues detected during routine inspections,” Unyimadu stated, adding that the corporation’s priority remains “the comfort and safety of passengers.”

Commissioned in 2020, the Warri–Itakpe corridor connects Ujevwu Station in Delta State with Itakpe in Kogi State, passing through several communities in Edo.
It serves as a vital transport link for both commuters and freight across Nigeria’s South-South and North-Central regions.
The NRC noted that normal train schedules would be restored gradually as additional locomotives and coaches are cleared for deployment after final safety evaluations.
