‘We Overran Them’: ISWAP Boasts of Heavy Casualties in Marte Attack

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has announced it carried out a significant assault on a Nigerian Army base in Marte, Borno State.

The group shared on its Telegram channel that its fighters launched the attack in the early hours of Monday.

ISWAP described how its fighters clashed with Nigerian soldiers in a fierce gun battle lasting about an hour.

Afterward, they overran the base, claiming to have killed many soldiers and driven the rest to retreat.

This attack adds to a string of violent strikes by the insurgents on towns such as Marte, Dikwa, Rann, and Gajiram. These raids reportedly resulted in multiple deaths, widespread destruction of property, and the seizure of weapons.
