The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assured that Abuja’s ongoing development projects will continue unabated, even as the city prepares for the upcoming Area Council elections on February 21.
Wike made the assurance on Wednesday, February 4, while touring several infrastructure projects in the FCT, stressing that political events will not disrupt government service delivery or project implementation.
“Politics is different. You have to serve the people. Politics has its own time, and the work will continue to go on. Politics is not going to affect it,” he said during the inspection.
He added that consistent execution of projects is essential to demonstrating the sincerity of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasising that citizens value visible results.
“The only way to make sure that people will be happy and see that the Renewed Hope Agenda is real is to continue with the work,” Wike said.

Among the projects visited was the Institutional Research Road, linking Nile University, the Body of Benchers, and other institutions, providing an alternative route to the older road leading to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission headquarters.
The minister described the road as a strategic artery expected to carry significant traffic upon completion.
“The work done there is very encouraging. By the end of May, the contractor will hand over the project, and it is one of those lined up for inauguration during Mr President’s third year in office,” Wike stated.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining progress on infrastructure while balancing political engagements, assuring residents that development in the FCT remains a top priority.
