Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will resign if President Bola Tinubu loses either the FCT or Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike spoke on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, in Abuja while receiving members of the Association of Apo Mechanic Village, who sought intervention over their proposed relocation.
The former Rivers State governor expressed confidence that Tinubu would win both territories, saying he was prepared to take responsibility if the President failed to do so.
His declaration came five days after he announced plans to personally lead Tinubu’s 2027 campaign teams in the FCT and Rivers.
On September 25, while inspecting the Phase Two construction of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road, Wike said campaign structures would soon be inaugurated in both territories.

The minister has openly supported Tinubu’s re-election despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
On September 2, Wike pledged to deliver Rivers and the FCT to Tinubu, where he said he remained influential within the political structures.
His pledge is particularly significant in the FCT, where Tinubu lost to Peter Obi in 2023. Obi polled 281,717 votes against Tinubu’s 90,902, while Atiku Abubakar scored 74,194.
Tinubu won Rivers in the same election with 231,591 votes, ahead of Obi’s 175,071 and Atiku’s 88,468.
Wike governed Rivers from 2015 to 2023 before becoming FCT minister in August 2023.
