Wike Receives Senator Mpigi’s Body At Abuja Airport

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, received the remains of late Senator Barinada Mpigi at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Wike arrived at the airport around 5:30 a.m. to receive the body and was joined by members of the late lawmaker’s family, including his wife, Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, and their children.

Also present were notable political figures such as the chairman of the board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mao Ohuabunwa; Senators Philip Aduda, Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh, and Olaka Nwogu; and the minority leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda.

Others in attendance included Rivers State coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Desmond Akawor, and the national vice-chairman (South-South) of the All Progressives Congress, Victor Giadom.

Wike had previously visited the Mpigi family in London on Friday, February 27, 2026, to convey condolences and assist with arrangements for the repatriation of the senator’s remains.

Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented Rivers South-East in the National Assembly, died in London on February 19, 2026, at the age of 64.

The funeral arrangements and further details are expected to be communicated by the family in due course.
