Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on Monday took to the streets to monitor compliance with traffic regulations, spending more than an hour at Kofar Fanfo Junction to ensure motorists obeyed traffic light signals.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, who said Yusuf was joined by the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners and other senior government officials during the exercise.
According to the statement, the governor’s presence at the junction formed part of efforts by the state government to restore discipline and improve order on roads across Kano.
While addressing road users, Yusuf urged motorists, commercial vehicle operators, tricycle riders and pedestrians to observe traffic rules, stressing that compliance with traffic lights is critical to protecting lives and property.
He also revealed plans by his administration to strengthen the Kano Road Traffic Agency to enable it operate more efficiently as a professional traffic management body dedicated to ensuring road safety.

“The agency will be strengthened to improve traffic control, enforce road regulations, and promote a culture of compliance across the state,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a safer, more organised and efficient transportation system that will serve the interests of all residents.
Expressing concern over what he described as the reckless behaviour of some road users and their failure to obey the newly installed traffic lights, Yusuf said the multi-billion-naira infrastructure must be properly utilised.
“Traffic offenders should be closely monitored and punished by the relevant authorities to ensure that the equipment is not relegated to merely a city decoration,” Yusuf warned.
