The National Population Commission (NPC) has launched the Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (E-CRVS) in Zamfara State to improve the registration, management and accessibility of birth and death records.
The platform was unveiled on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the NPC office in Gusau during a press briefing, with officials describing it as a major step towards strengthening civil registration through digital technology.
The Federal Commissioner representing Zamfara State, Rt. Hon. Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya, said the system would enhance the accuracy, security and reliability of vital records while providing government with better population data for planning, policy formulation and development programmes.
Magarya noted that birth and death registration is a fundamental civil right, as proper documentation enables citizens to access essential services, including education, healthcare and government interventions.

He urged parents, traditional leaders, community representatives and healthcare providers to support the initiative by ensuring prompt registration of all births and deaths through the electronic platform.
The NPC said the Zamfara rollout aligns with the Federal Government’s wider efforts to modernize Nigeria’s civil registration system and improve the availability of reliable demographic data.
Nigeria’s shift to electronic civil registration began with the national launch of the E-CRVS platform on November 8, 2023, aimed at replacing manual processes with a more efficient digital system for capturing vital statistics.
The commission said accurate civil registration remains critical to effective governance, identity management and evidence-based decision-making, as reliable population data enables better planning and improved public service delivery.
