Political analyst and Professor of Political Science, Jideofor Adibe, has urged Peter Obi to remain cautious as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition positions itself for the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels TV’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, August 26, Adibe explained that while Obi has his own team of advisers, navigating the coalition demands vigilance.
“I wouldn’t want to advise Peter Obi; he has his own advisors. At the end, he has to make his own decisions, but if I were him, I would be extremely suspicious,” he said.
His warning comes after both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) zoned their tickets to the South, while the ADC is yet to make a pronouncement.
Within the coalition, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed interest in running, raising concerns about how northern ambitions could affect southern aspirants like Obi and Rotimi Amaechi.

Adibe praised Obi’s style of politics, describing him as someone who thinks beyond the surface and often prepares alternative strategies.
“It’s up to him to know what his own political strategists are telling him and what these moves are, but I believe that once any announcement is made, they create scenarios,” he stated.
He further suggested that the PDP’s decision to zone its ticket would become more understandable in the months ahead, as alliances and strategies unfold.
The professor likened the entire process to a dramatic contest. According to him, Obi’s path to success would depend on careful calculation and alertness.
“In the end, like any chess game, it may work and it may not, but we don’t know, and in all this it is a tug of war,” he remarked.
