The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that more politicians are quietly positioning themselves for its 2027 presidential ticket, beyond the familiar names already in public conversation.
Addressing reporters in Abuja on Sunday, September 14, the party’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, said the PDP was still in the stage of consultations and negotiations to determine the candidate best suited to lead the party into the next general election.
“The names you mentioned remain speculative at this stage. What is important now in the PDP are negotiations and discussions.
“The party is engaging in deep consultations to identify the most credible candidate who can unify the country and command nationwide support,” Osuoha explained.
Public focus has largely been on figures such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Labour Party presidential flag bearer Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

However, Osuoha said other influential leaders from the South are also quietly reaching out to party stakeholders and building support behind the scenes.
He added that while some aspirants are yet to openly declare their interest, they are deliberately gathering momentum ahead of the official race.
According to him, the PDP’s immediate priority is its forthcoming national convention, which will elect new national officers to set the direction of the party ahead of 2027.
“It is after the convention that the party will formally narrow the field to those who want to contest. The PDP is determined to conduct a free, fair, and transparent primary election. We want to show Nigerians that when we talk about democracy, we practice it,” Osuoha said.
His comments come shortly after Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro also confirmed that Jonathan, Obi, and Makinde are being considered but stressed that other credible contenders could still enter the race as consultations intensify.
