PDP Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket to South

The Peoples Democratic Party has taken a major step towards the 2027 general elections, zoning its presidential ticket to the South.

The decision came on Monday, August 25, during the party’s 102nd National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, where leaders unanimously adopted the recommendation of the National Zoning Committee led by Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.

The committee’s report, which was ratified at the meeting, maintained the long-standing balance between the North and South in the party’s power-sharing arrangement.

Speaking after the meeting, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, read out the communiqué, stressing that the decision was guided by fairness and continuity.

“Since the National Chairman of the party is coming from the North in the November 15th and 16th elective National Convention slated for Ibadan, Oyo State, NEC decided to zone the presidency to the South,” Ologunagba said.

With this move, the PDP has set the stage for a southern presidential candidate in 2027 while the national chairmanship remains in the North.
