2027: Shina Peller Declares Oyo North Senate Ambition

Former House of Representatives member Shina Peller has declared his intention to contest the Oyo North Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general election on the platform of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).

Peller announced the bid on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in an X post titled “A New Chapter of Service,” saying it was driven by a renewed commitment to public service.

He represented Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023.

Peller previously sought the Oyo North Senate seat ahead of the 2023 election. He lost the APC primary on May 30, 2022, to then-incumbent Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, who secured 570 votes against Peller’s five.

He subsequently left the APC and contested the February 25, 2023, senatorial election on the Accord Party platform. Buhari retained the seat with 90,078 votes, while Peller polled 54,732.

Peller joined the Peoples Democratic Party in 2024 before moving to the APM in 2026.

Buhari has since ruled out another Senate bid, opting instead to pursue the Oyo State governorship in 2027.

Peller’s declaration therefore sets up another attempt at the Oyo North seat, with the incumbent’s exit leaving the district open for a new senator in 2027.
