33-Year-Old Caught Writing Father’s FCT Promotion Exam

A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested in Abuja for allegedly writing a promotion examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an FCT Fire Service employee.

Musa was apprehended on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), venue of the FCT Civil Service Commission’s promotion examination.

He was reportedly caught on the third day of the exercise by security personnel deployed on the directive of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

According to a statement by the minister’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, Monsuru initially claimed his father was ill but later admitted that Mohammed had asked him to take the examination for him.

The account prompted further questioning after Monsuru put his father’s age at 67 or 68, while Mohammed said he would turn 60 in February 2027. Mohammed also said he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982.

The father and son were handed over to the police after making statements to Department of State Services operatives.

The incident occurred during an examination involving about 10,700 FCT civil servants. The exercise began on October 5 as part of efforts to clear outstanding promotion backlogs, with the commission expected to return to its regular annual promotion cycle from 2027.

The case comes amid continuing efforts by examination authorities to curb impersonation and other forms of malpractice in Nigeria.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the alleged impersonation and will determine any further action.
