Anambra Assembly Suspends Lawmaker Over “Damaging” Social Media Post

The Anambra State House of Assembly has suspended Bernard Udemezue, member representing Ayamelum Constituency, for three months over a social media post described as “damaging content.”

Udemezue, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, had alleged in the post that his constituency was being marginalised in the sharing of constituency allowance.

The controversy began last Tuesday when the lawmaker was summoned during plenary after a motion of urgent public importance was moved by Tony Muobike, representing Aguata 2 Constituency, and seconded by Chief Whip Jude Ngobili of Ihiala 1 Constituency.

Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze, who presided over that sitting, referred the matter to the House Committee on Rules, Businesses, Ethics and Privileges, with a directive to report back this week.

At Tuesday, August 26, plenary, the Assembly adopted the committee’s report and resolved to suspend Udemezue for three months.
