The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has rolled out a new initiative tagged ‘operation go cashless’, introducing a contactless and cash-free payment model.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the 25th of September, 2025, FAAN explained that the project is being implemented in partnership with Paystack.
The system will officially take off on the 29th of September, at two major airports, the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
“Effective September 29, 2025, all payments at FAAN’s revenue points, including airport Access Gates, Car Parks, FAAN VIP and Protocol Lounges will go cashless which means we will be phasing out the collection of cash at these points. Travelers and airport users will now enjoy fast and seamless services by using a secure contactless payment option,” the statement read.

FAAN described the shift as a response to the rising need for safe, transparent, and modern payment solutions, while also aligning Nigeria’s airports with international digital standards.
The agency noted that cutting down on cash transactions will boost accountability, strengthen revenue management, and improve service delivery to passengers and airport visitors.
It further stated that the cashless model will be extended to other airports across the country in stages.
