Kebbi Govt Refutes Alleged Poor Showing in 2025 NECO Exams

The Kebbi State Government has refuted claims that the state performed poorly in the 2025 National Examinations Council (NECO) results.

In a weekend statement, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Halima M. Bande, dismissed the report as misleading. She clarified that public secondary schools in Kebbi withdrew from NECO examinations in 2022 and have since focused on the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

“For the past four years, public schools in Kebbi State have not taken part in NECO examinations. Therefore, any attempt to rank Kebbi in NECO 2025 is baseless and lacks credibility,” Bande stated.

She further explained that only a few private schools in the state continue to present candidates for NECO, stressing that their results cannot reflect the overall standard of education in Kebbi.

“The criteria used in ranking Kebbi State last are inaccurate and faulty. Since our public schools were not part of NECO, no genuine comparison can be made,” she added.
