Nurses and midwives at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have called off their strike after Governor Seyi Makinde stepped in to resolve the dispute.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued in Ibadan and jointly signed by the Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and the Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake.
The health workers had been on an indefinite strike since September 2025, demanding improvements in welfare and conditions of service.
Their decision to end the action followed Governor Makinde’s visit to the facility on Wednesday, where he met with management, professional associations, and hospital staff to broker peace.
During his engagement, Makinde approved an additional N35 million to the hospital’s monthly subvention. He also directed a phased settlement of outstanding promotion arrears and minimum wage arrears. The governor further ordered the inclusion of non-staff personnel into the hospital system, stressing the need for fairness and inclusivity.
He pledged to immediately set up a Governing Council for the teaching hospital and assured that the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annexe in Oyo would be completed before the expiration of his tenure.
In their statement, the nurses and midwives expressed gratitude, describing Makinde as a “compassionate and visionary leader” whose swift action restored their confidence.
