Prominent activist and social critic, Aisha Yesufu, has reaffirmed her commitment to seeking justice for the late Ochanya Ogbanje, whose death in 2018 following alleged sexual abuse sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
Yesufu made the declaration on Thursday via her X (formerly Twitter) account, while responding to an open letter from a young Nigerian woman identified as Kema, who appealed to her to once again champion the cause amid renewed public attention to the case.
In her emotional response, Yesufu expressed deep regret over the failure of society to protect the late Ochanya, describing the case as a painful reminder of collective negligence.
“Ochanya will forever remind me of my failures as a Nigerian adult. We didn’t protect her and prevent the pain her family has had to live with,” she wrote.
The activist, however, commended the rising generation of Nigerians for amplifying civic causes and sustaining public advocacy. She said their growing voices in the demand for justice reflect the evolution of citizen activism in the country.

“It is no longer just one Aisha Yesufu but thousands doing so much better. There are new sheriffs in town, and they will deliver a new Nigeria for us all,” she stated.
Yesufu assured her followers that she would actively support ongoing efforts to revive the #JusticeForOchanya campaign, vowing that the injustice suffered by the late teenager must not be forgotten.
“We failed her once. We cannot fail her again,” she affirmed.
Aisha Yesufu, a co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement and a leading voice during the #EndSARS protests, has long been associated with civic activism and advocacy for justice, human rights, and accountability in governance.
