Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has renewed calls for justice in the case of late Ochanya Ogbaje, whose tragic story of sexual abuse and death seven years ago stirred nationwide outrage.
The lawmaker representing Kogi Central Senatorial District made the call on Thursday through a post on her official Instagram page, expressing disappointment over the acquittal of the individuals accused in the case.
“Seven years ago, the heart-wrenching story of little Ochanya devastated me. I thought the perpetrators were in jail. Alas, they were discharged and acquitted,” she wrote.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan urged the family of the late Ochanya to file a formal petition to her office at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, assuring them of her commitment to pursuing justice.
“For our children, I stand for justice for Ochanya,” she declared.

The renewed call has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians commending the senator for revisiting a case that once symbolized the fight against child sexual abuse and gender-based violence in Nigeria.
Ochanya Ogbaje, a 13-year-old schoolgirl, died in 2018 after suffering prolonged sexual assault allegedly perpetrated by a guardian and his son — a case that drew national attention to the plight of vulnerable children.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s statement comes amid growing advocacy for justice reform and renewed public demand for accountability in unresolved sexual abuse cases across the country.
