Esther Okoronkwo Fires Hat-Trick as AFC Toronto March Into NSL Final

Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo delivered a masterclass performance, scoring a sensational hat-trick to propel AFC Toronto into the maiden Northern Super League (NSL) final with a 4–1 victory over Montreal Roses on Monday night.

Having secured a 2–0 advantage from the first leg played on November 1 at Stade Boreale in Montreal, Toronto completed the double with an emphatic 6–1 aggregate triumph at the snow-covered York Lions Stadium.

Okoronkwo opened the scoring in the 7th minute after connecting neatly with a pass from Kaylee Hunter.

She doubled the lead 13 minutes later with a brilliant free-kick before weaving past four defenders to complete her hat-trick before the half-hour mark.

Montreal Roses managed a consolation through Tanya Boychuk in the 75th minute, but Lauren Rowe sealed Toronto’s dominance with a stunning volley to end the game 4–1.

The Nigerian forward, who has been in remarkable form this season, finished the regular campaign with eight goals and eight assists and is tipped among the frontrunners for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.

Monday’s match, initially scheduled for Sunday, was postponed due to heavy snowfall in Toronto.

With the victory, AFC Toronto now set their sights on Vancouver Rise, who edged Ottawa 5–4 on penalties after a 3–3 aggregate draw, in the NSL final slated for Saturday at the BMO Field.
