Kabiru Turaki, recently elected as the factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has called on former U.S. President Donald Trump and the international community to intervene in Nigeria’s growing political turmoil.
Speaking outside the PDP national secretariat at Wadata Plaza on Tuesday, November 18, Turaki described the situation as “alarming” and said it threatens the country’s democratic foundations.
“I want to call on President Trump. What is at stake is not just genocide against Christians; he should come and save democracy in Nigeria.
“Democracy is under threat. I am calling all other developed nations, all advanced democracies, come and save Nigeria,” Turaki told reporters.
He accused the faction loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of mobilising armed individuals to obstruct party activities and block access to the secretariat.

Turaki stressed that his faction is ready to defend its mandate at all costs. “I have said it, we are willing to lay down our lives to protect our office, to protect democracy and to protect our mandate,” he added.
Tensions escalated as both the Turaki-led National Working Committee and the Wike-backed group, led by factional National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, held simultaneous National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees meetings.
The standoff turned violent when teargas was deployed, forcing party members, staff, and journalists to flee.
Outside the building, supporters of the rival factions clashed, further deepening the crisis and signalling a critical flashpoint in the troubled opposition party.
The developments underscore the widening rift within the PDP, raising questions about internal cohesion and the stability of one of Nigeria’s major political parties.
