NNPP Declares 2027 Onslaught: Vows to Sweep Out All APC Lawmakers in Ondo

The Ondo State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has vowed to unseat all serving lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress in the state and National Assembly during the 2027 general elections.

The party made the declaration on Tuesday at its state secretariat in Akure during the inauguration of its newly elected executive council, led by Chairman Peter Olagookun.

Ondo currently has three senators, nine members of the House of Representatives and 26 members of the State House of Assembly, all from the APC. However, Olagookun said the legislators had failed to deliver meaningful development to their constituencies and would be replaced by the NNPP.

“As everybody knows, NNPP is the main opposition party in Ondo State. PDP is more divided, while ADC is just a gathering of retired politicians. Many of those representing constituencies in both the State and National Assemblies have failed us,” he said. “They deserve to be replaced, and we will replace them.”

Olagookun, who was re-elected for a second term, said the party would field “formidable candidates” in the 2027 polls, adding that the NNPP would present itself as the only viable alternative to the APC in the state. He said the party would intensify mobilisation and open its doors to aspirants willing to join ahead of the elections.

Commenting on national security, the NNPP chairman said President Bola Tinubu appeared “overwhelmed” by the worsening insecurity and should adopt the recommendations of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

“When we take over power in 2027, we are going to resolve the issue of insecurity in our country. As our party name implies, we will build a new Nigeria for all,” he added.

The newly inaugurated executive includes Comrade Oluwayomi Adekunle as Secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Shuibu as Treasurer, and vice chairmen Apata Johnson (Ondo North), Ojo Olubodade (Ondo South), and Dr. Tunde Adejuyigbe (Ondo Central), alongside 33 other officials.
