Kogi Tragedy: 2 Dead, 19 Injured in Lokoja–Okene Crash

No fewer than two persons were killed while 19 others sustained injuries in a road accident along the Lokoja–Okene highway in Kogi State on Tuesday.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi State, Mr Tenimu Etuku, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Lokoja. He said the crash, which involved a commercial bus, occurred at about 9:40 a.m.

According to Etuku, four of the injured passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries, including bruises and fractures, and were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

He attributed the accident to excessive speeding, explaining that the bus had departed Kano on Monday evening en route to Auchi and Benin before the crash occurred.

“The FRSC personnel who carried out the rescue operation deposited the two corpses at the morgue of the Kogi Specialist Hospital in Lokoja,” Etuku said.
