The All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted state congresses on Tuesday in Enugu and Bayelsa states, electing new executive committees through consensus arrangements.
In Enugu, the congress at Okpara Square produced a new State Executive Committee, affirming former Peoples Democratic Party state executives led by Dr. Martin Chukwunwike as chairman. The event was attended by Governor Peter Mbah, his deputy, members of the State House of Assembly, and National Assembly lawmakers. Outgoing caretaker committee chairman Ben Nwoye said the exercise completed a reconciliation process that unified splinter groups within the party. Over 6,000 executives had been elected across wards and local governments prior to the state congress.
In Bayelsa, the congress at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa produced a 37-member executive committee led by Hon. Warman Ogoriba as chairman. Governor Douye Diri described the congress as historic and peaceful and urged the new executives to work harmoniously with leaders and caucuses across the state. Outgoing caretaker chairman Dennis Otiotio commended the governor for reconciling party factions and ensuring peaceful congresses.
