Truck Kills Toddler, Two Others On Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

Three people, including a toddler, were killed and six others injured in a road accident involving an articulated truck at the Toll-Gate section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State on Friday.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 2 pm. The accident involved a white Howo Sino truck (number plate T4995LA), two yellow commercial buses, an LT bus, and two Suzuki yellow buses.

According to TRACE spokesperson Babatunde Akinbiyi, eyewitnesses reported that the truck suffered brake failure before ramming into multiple vehicles and passengers waiting at the bus stop. “Fifteen people were involved; six commuters were injured while three others, a toddler and two adults, died,” he said.

Akinbiyi urged articulated vehicle owners to ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles and advised traders displaying goods on walkways and roadsides to remove them to prevent further accidents.

The incident comes less than two weeks after a similar accident at the same toll gate, where six people were killed when a truck carrying oil lost its brakes. Following that tragedy, Ogun State officials ordered the removal of traders operating at the bus stop.
