Enugu Air Gets Operating Licence, Plans Regional Expansion

Enugu Air officially received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, clearing the airline to operate commercial flights independently.

The milestone marks a major step in the airline’s development and in Governor Peter Mbah’s plan to position Enugu as a regional aviation hub.

The certificate was presented to CEO Tolu Ita after Enugu Air successfully completed the regulatory requirements, confirming the airline’s readiness to offer safe and reliable flight services.

Enugu Air initially launched operations on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, partnering with XEJet while working toward full certification.

With the AOC now secured, the airline is preparing to expand its fleet to around 20 aircraft and commence regional flights by the end of 2026, linking Enugu to major domestic cities and key destinations across West and Central Africa.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Obi Ozor, said Enugu Air is central to the state’s broader strategy to improve transport infrastructure, boost trade, generate jobs, and drive economic growth.

With independent operations now possible, Enugu Air is positioned to enhance connectivity from Enugu and establish itself as a competitive player in Nigeria’s regional aviation market.
