UEFA has called off the planned 2026 Finalissima, the intercontinental fixture that brings together the champions of Europe and South America.
The match had been scheduled for Friday, March 27, 2026, at Lusail Stadium in Lusail, Qatar, where UEFA Euro 2024 winners Spain national football team were expected to face Copa América 2024 champions Argentina national football team.
The European football governing body confirmed Sunday, March 15, 2026, that the game would no longer take place, citing security and logistical concerns linked to the continuing conflict in the Middle East.
Officials involved in the planning process considered alternative arrangements, including shifting the venue or exploring a new date.

However, consultations between organizers and the participating football federations did not yield a practical solution.
The Finalissima is organized jointly by UEFA and CONMEBOL and is designed as a one-off contest between the winners of the UEFA European Championship and the Copa América.
Argentina were set to enter the 2026 edition as holders after defeating Italy national football team 3–0 in the previous Finalissima staged at Wembley Stadium in 2022.
With the cancellation confirmed, organizers are expected to review whether the competition will return in the next cycle of continental championships.
