Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Maiduguri on Wednesday, March 18, to personally assess the aftermath of the deadly bomb attacks that killed about 23 people and left hundreds injured in the Borno State capital.
The visit, which also served as a condolence call on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, was confirmed by Stanley Nkwocha, Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communication in the Office of the Vice President.
Shettima touched down at the Maiduguri International Airport where he was received by Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan representing Borno Central, other members of the National Assembly, senior government officials and party stakeholders.
The bomb blasts, suspected to have been carried out by Boko Haram terrorists, struck two locations on Monday evening shortly after iftar during the holy month of Ramadan.

One explosion hit the busy Monday Market while the other went off at the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
The attacks, which targeted civilians at a time when residents were breaking their Ramadan fast, have drawn widespread condemnation across the country.
About 23 people were confirmed dead while hundreds of others sustained injuries of varying degrees.
Shettima’s visit underscores the gravity of the incident and security situation in the North-East, a region that has borne the brunt of insurgent violence for over a decade.
