A former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant shift in his political trajectory.
Shekarau, who also served as a Senator, disclosed his decision in a resignation letter dated April 19, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to him, the move forms part of a broader strategic political realignment.

The letter, which takes immediate effect, stated: “Accept this letter please as notice of my resignation from my position as member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from today.”
While the former governor did not immediately announce his next political destination, his departure is expected to stir reactions within Kano’s political landscape, where he remains an influential figure.
