Imumolen-Led Accord Party Disowns Ibadan Coalition, Rejects Identity Use

The Accord Party, led by Prof. Chris Imumolen, has distanced itself from the opposition coalition meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, April 25, 2026, where parties reportedly agreed on a joint presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.

The party said it neither attended the meeting nor authorised the use of its name, logo, or platform in any of the decisions reached.

The Ibadan summit, convened by opposition figures including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President David Mark and elements of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, ended with a reported consensus to field a single candidate against President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

However, in a statement on Sunday, April 26, 2026, through its National Secretary, Muktar Abdallah, the Accord Party rejected any link to the arrangement.

“This is not an oversight; it is a misrepresentation. The Accord Party will not be dragged into alliances it neither negotiated nor approved,” it said.

The party insisted it remains independent and has not entered any coalition with the ADC, PDP, or any other group involved in the Ibadan meeting.

It also warned that the alleged use of its identity raises concerns about the credibility of the coalition process.

Reaffirming its stance, the party said it will contest the 2027 elections independently and field its own presidential candidate.

It added that Prof. Imumolen has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to organizers of the Ibadan summit to explain the use of its identity, warning that failure to comply may trigger legal action.
