Wabara: PDP Will Reclaim Power In 2027 As NEC Moves To Stabilise Party

The  Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adolphus Wabara, has declared that the party remains determined to return to power in 2027, despite its current leadership crisis.

Speaking at the 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday in Abuja, Wabara said the gathering, convened by two-thirds of NEC members, reflects the party’s resilience and ability to overcome internal challenges.

He explained that the BoT assumed administrative control of the party following a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which nullified the National Working Committee (NWC) and invalidated the 2025 National Convention that produced it.

According to Wabara, the intervention was necessary to prevent a leadership vacuum and ensure continuity within the party.

He commended former party leaders, including Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, and members of the dissolved NWC for their loyalty and service, while also acknowledging the support of governors, lawmakers, and other stakeholders.

The PDP chieftain accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of subjecting Nigerians to hardship, alleging that the party was working with some suspended PDP members to destabilise the opposition.

“As I address you today, Nigerians are earnestly praying for the PDP to rise again, take centre stage and rescue our nation,” Wabara said, adding that the party remains the platform through which citizens can “reclaim their country” in 2027.

He further alleged that certain individuals had orchestrated legal battles and political manoeuvres in an attempt to weaken the PDP, but insisted that such efforts would not succeed.

Wabara urged party members to put aside personal interests and unite for the collective goal of rebuilding the PDP, stressing that internal unity and discipline would be key to regaining public trust.

The NEC meeting, he noted, is also expected to deliberate on the appointment of an Interim National Working Committee to steer the affairs of the party during the transition period.

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respect the Supreme Court judgment and update its records accordingly once the interim leadership is ratified.

Wabara charged those to be appointed into the interim leadership to embrace sacrifice, promote reconciliation, and uphold the principles of internal democracy, fairness, and transparency.

He expressed confidence that the PDP would emerge stronger from its current challenges, assuring members that their efforts would yield victory in the next general elections.

“Come May 29, 2027, Nigerians will be celebrating the election of new leadership for our country on the platform of the PDP,” he said.
