PDP Denies Jonathan Campaign Posters, Warns Against Fake Membership Claims

The Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Tanimu Turaki has dismissed as fake campaign posters circulating online bearing the image of former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2027 general election.

The posters, which have been widely shared across social media platforms, reportedly feature Jonathan either alone or paired with other prominent Nigerians as potential running mates under different political party platforms.

Reacting to the development on Saturday, the PDP Interim National Working Committee described the posters as misleading and fraudulent.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the faction insisted that Jonathan remains a registered member of the PDP under the Turaki-led leadership.

“Campaign posters bearing the photographs of President Goodluck Jonathan, either alone or paired with other notable Nigerians as running mate, have emerged and are being circulated widely on social media platforms,” the statement read.

“These posters also falsely portray him as a member of the various political parties whose logos appear on them.”

The party stated that Jonathan personally participated in the PDP’s recently concluded digital membership registration exercise at his ward and had confirmed his membership status during a meeting with members of the Interim National Working Committee.

“We state categorically that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party under the capable leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN,” the statement added.

According to the faction, the clarification became necessary because the Electoral Act prohibits multiple party registrations and prescribes penalties for offenders.

The PDP also alleged that political mischief makers could attempt to fraudulently register Jonathan and other prominent opposition figures in multiple political parties to create legal complications ahead of the elections.

“We are aware that mischief makers may not only design and circulate fake campaign posters, but may also, in concert with highly placed collaborators, attempt to input the details of President Jonathan and other prominent members of our party and the opposition movement into the databases of different political parties,” the statement said.

The party subsequently urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to disregard any such alleged fraudulent political activity.
