A former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and aspirant for the Abia Central Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress, Rt. Hon. Christopher Enweremadu, has withdrawn from the senatorial race slated for Monday, May 18, throwing his weight behind Chief Emeka Atuma.
Enweremadu, who leads the Isialangwa North Equity Movement, also endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decisions were announced during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting organised by the movement on Sunday in Isialangwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.
The gathering had in attendance political leaders, party supporters, community stakeholders, and youth representatives who met to discuss the political direction of the area and the state.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting and jointly signed by Enweremadu, Director-General of the Equity Movement, Hon. Tony Otuonye, and the group’s secretary, Barr. Chinedu Nwoko, the stakeholders expressed support for Tinubu’s administration, saying the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda under the APC has continued to promote economic reforms, infrastructure development, national growth, and policies targeted at repositioning the country for sustainable progress.
The group maintained that allowing continuity in leadership would help consolidate ongoing reforms and fast-track development nationwide, while urging Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The stakeholders also unanimously adopted Atuma, popularly called “Kabila,” as the consensus candidate of the movement for the Abia Central Senatorial seat ahead of the forthcoming election.

According to the communiqué, the endorsement was based on the principles of equity, fairness, and political balance within the senatorial district, insisting that the remaining four-year tenure of the Abia Central seat should return to Ikwuano Local Government Area.
Enweremadu said, “My decision to step down for Chief Atuma was informed by the existing zoning arrangement and understanding within the zone, which supports the completion of the remaining four-year tenure by a candidate from Ikwuano Local Government Area.
Respecting such agreements remains critical to sustaining unity, trust, and harmony in the senatorial zone.
“Honouring the zoning arrangement would also pave the way for other local government areas to legitimately lay claim to the senatorial seat when it becomes their turn.
Adherence to political agreements is necessary to avoid marginalisation and ensure peaceful power rotation within the zone.
“Chief Atuma is a seasoned and astute politician with an impressive track record of service, grassroots connection, and quality representation.
We are confident in his capacity to effectively represent the people of Abia Central at the National Assembly.”
The movement further appealed to party members, political stakeholders, and residents of Abia Central to support Atuma’s aspiration in the interest of unity, inclusion, and continued development across the zone.
