The Labour Party in Abia State has elected Peter Azubuike as its new state chairman.
Azubuike emerged on Saturday during the party’s State Congress held in Umuahia, alongside other members of the State Working Committee, who were selected through a consensus arrangement adopted by delegates.
Other officials elected include Chucks Akamadu as state secretary, Ben Otti as organising secretary, and Emenike Iroegbu as publicity secretary.
Speaking after the exercise, the state governor, Alex Otti, commended party members for the orderly conduct of the congress and pledged support for the new leadership.

“This is the beginning of a new era… this time we will all pull together from one direction,” the governor said, assuring the executives of his administration’s backing for a smooth take-off.
He also praised the immediate past acting chairman, Emmanuel Otti, for stabilising the party ahead of the congress and urged him to remain engaged in its affairs.
In his acceptance speech, Azubuike promised to unite and strengthen the party’s structure across the state, expressing confidence in leveraging the governor’s popularity to secure electoral victories in 2027.
