APC Mobilises 4.4 Million Canvassers Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, has disclosed that the All Progressives Congress has recruited 4,421,150 canvassers across Nigeria’s 176,846 polling units as part of its mobilisation strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Uzodimma, who is also the Governor of Imo State, made the announcement on Wednesday during the opening of a two-day national retreat of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors held at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.

According to him, the mobilisation drive is designed to build a formidable grassroots structure capable of promoting the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and securing electoral victory in 2027.

“At 25 canvassers to a polling unit, that is a lawful civic force of 4,421,150 people across the federation.

That is the mathematics of serious mobilisation. That is the difference between hoping to win and organising to win,” he said.

Uzodimma explained that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors had established a nationwide command structure stretching from the national level through the six geopolitical zones, 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, 774 local government areas, 8,809 wards and registration areas, down to polling units across the country.

He revealed that the organisation currently operates through 17 directorates covering youth mobilisation, media and publicity, digital communication, finance, technology, intelligence gathering, women affairs, diaspora engagement, research and innovation, among others.

The Imo governor also disclosed that the group launched a digital platform in April equipped with a data communication centre designed to monitor public sentiment and counter misinformation in real time.

Describing the 2027 election as a defining moment for Nigeria, Uzodimma said voters would decide whether the country should continue on what he described as a path of reform and economic recovery or return to previous policies.

He urged members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to focus on translating government policies into relatable stories that resonate with citizens at the grassroots level.

According to him, one of the biggest challenges facing governments is the failure to effectively communicate achievements to the people.

“Very often, it is silence. When we do good work and nobody hears the story, someone else tells it for us, and they tell it wrong. When reform goes unexplained, rumour rushes in to fill the gap,” he said.

Defending key economic reforms implemented by the Tinubu administration, including the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange policy changes, Uzodimma argued that the decisions were difficult but necessary to stabilise the economy and secure long-term growth.

“The President chose the path of courage over convenience. Our responsibility is to explain these reforms to Nigerians and ensure that the benefits are clearly understood at the grassroots,” he stated.

He pointed to Nigeria’s reported 3.89 per cent Gross Domestic Product growth in the first quarter of 2026 as evidence that the reforms were beginning to yield results.

Uzodimma also highlighted several ongoing federal infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Road, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and the Bodo-Bonny Road project.

He further cited developments in healthcare, the student loan programme, consumer credit initiatives, implementation of the new national minimum wage, tax reforms and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative as signs of progress under the current administration.

In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said Nigeria’s economic outlook had improved significantly under the Tinubu administration.

He disclosed that the country’s foreign reserves had risen to over $50 billion while Nigeria recorded a trade surplus of N7.55 trillion in the first quarter of 2026.

Yilwatda also claimed that multinational energy giant Shell had committed a fresh $20 billion investment in Nigeria after previously reducing its exposure to the country.

“Investors who once sat on the sidelines are now taking a fresh look at Nigeria. Shell that was pulling investment is committing a fresh $20 billion into our economy,” he said.

The APC chairman challenged members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to communicate government achievements through human-interest stories rather than relying solely on statistics.

“Policies do not speak for themselves. Projects do not speak for themselves. Statistics do not speak for themselves. People speak. Data informs minds, but stories inspire hearts,” he said.

Also speaking at the retreat, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State described mobilisation as critical to sustaining the Renewed Hope Agenda and securing electoral success in 2027.

He urged participants to counter what he described as misinformation campaigns by opposition parties and promote the achievements of the administration at the grassroots level.

Former Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, also addressed participants, describing the Renewed Hope Agenda as the culmination of more than a decade of APC political evolution.

The Renewed Hope Ambassadors was established in late 2025 as part of the Tinubu administration’s grassroots communication and civic engagement strategy.

The organisation is tasked with promoting government policies, mobilising public support and countering negative narratives about the administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
