The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, July 4, in observance of the United States Independence Day holiday.
The announcement was made on Thursday, July 2, through the US Mission’s official social media platforms.
According to the mission, “The US Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2026, in observance of US Independence Day.”

Normal consular and embassy services are expected to resume after the public holiday.
The Fourth of July, commonly known as US Independence Day, is observed annually to commemorate the adoption of the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776.
The declaration marked the decision of the thirteen American colonies to break away from British rule, laying the foundation for the establishment of the United States as an independent nation.
