‘A man of Great Power’ — Nathaniel Bassey Honours Late Uma Ukpai

Gospel minister Nathaniel Bassey has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, calling him a true spiritual father and a major influence on his Christian journey.

In an emotional Instagram post, ‘ the Halleluyah Challenge Convener’ reflected on the evangelist’s devotion to prayer and fasting, saying Ukpai’s dedication played a defining role in shaping his own ministry.

“Oh! Dr Uma! Sometimes you wish some people would never die. Just a few days ago, I led multitudes in an evening fast, something I learnt from you and even mentioned so. You called me son. What a privilege. A man who knows the ways of the spirit,” Bassey wrote.

He described Ukpai as “a man of great power, immense stature, and deep spiritual understanding,” adding that the late preacher demonstrated how worship and praise could serve as powerful weapons in spiritual battles.

Bassey said Ukpai’s life and ministry were not just about miracles but about revealing deeper truths of faith, humility, and the pursuit of God’s presence.

Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who died on October 6 at 80, was one of Nigeria’s most respected evangelists.

His passing, confirmed by his family a week later, has drawn heartfelt tributes from Christian leaders, gospel artists, and believers across the nation.
