Abia Govt Sacks Six Civil Servants Over Salary Padding

The Abia State Government has dismissed six staff of the Ministry of Justice for their involvement in salary padding.

In a statement on Friday, September 5, 2025, the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, Eno Jerry Eze, said the decision followed an audit and detailed disciplinary investigation.

Those dismissed are Mr. Dickson Uche Eze, Principal Accountant; Mrs. Esther Emeruwa, Senior Accountant; Mrs. Ijeoma Jonathan, Chief Executive Officer (Accounts); Mrs. Treasure Isinguzo, Assistant Chief Executive Officer (Accounts); Mrs. Chioma Victoria Erondu, Principal Executive Officer (Accounts); and Mrs. Hannah Ezinne Eze, Senior Executive Officer.

The Commission explained that the affected officers were found guilty of manipulating payroll records and receiving payments above their entitlements.

One officer, Mrs. Chioma Favour Madu, was cleared after being found to have promptly reported and corrected an overpayment.

The government said the dismissed officials would face prosecution and added that a probe has been opened into the roles of some members of the Salary Committee.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to accountability in the civil service and warned that similar misconduct would attract strict sanctions.
