Abia Security: Otti Sets High Bar for Incoming Army GOC

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State emphasized on Thursday, the 27th of November, 2025, that his administration views the security of its citizens as its most crucial mission, even when accounting for substantial financial expenditure.

The Governor’s remarks were made during a courtesy and familiarization visit by the recently deployed General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, based in Enugu, Major General Oluremi Fadairo.

Otti asserted that an environment where the safety of lives and property is neglected will ultimately undermine any other investments made. He acknowledged the high cost associated with maintaining security but stressed that this expense is necessary and justified.

“We also know that security costs a lot of money, so we spare no effort in ensuring that our people are secured. “If people cannot sleep with their two eyes closed, no matter how much investment you put in, nobody will patronise it”, Gov. Otti stated.

In closing, the Governor promised Major General Fadairo the state government’s full cooperation and support, suggesting that the GOC tour all military locations and battalions within Abia.

GOC Assures Drawing on Local Experience

For his part, Major General Oluremi Fadairo, who also commands the South-East Joint Task Force, “Operation Udoka,” assured Governor Otti of his commitment to tackling insecurity and criminality throughout Abia and the wider South-East region.

The GOC explained that his previous experience in the area would be leveraged to enhance ongoing operations.

“I served here as a young officer, and I think I know all the nooks and corners in this general area. So, coming here, I think, is a blessing to the operation”, Fadairo stated.

Major General Fadairo concluded by soliciting the continued support of both the Abia State Government and its populace, while also thanking the Governor for the assistance already extended to security agencies.
