AC Milan are on the verge of signing Nigerian striker Victor Boniface after reaching a verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen over a loan deal that includes a €30m buy option.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Wednesday that both clubs are now preparing formal documents, with Milan also engaged in direct talks with the forward’s representatives to finalise personal terms.
“AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen preparing formal documents after verbal agreement for Victor Boniface. Loan deal with €30m buy option clause not mandatory. AC Milan now in direct talks with Victor Boniface’s agent over personal terms, key final step to get the deal done,” Romano posted on X.
The 24-year-old striker has already approved the switch, having agreed in principle to Milan’s contract offer. According to Romano, “Negotiations underway today as Victor said yes to AC Milan contract proposal, talks continue over deal structure.”
The development is somewhat unexpected. Milan had been heavily linked with Rasmus Højlund and Dusan Vlahovic, with reports earlier this week suggesting those were the club’s main striker targets.
However, while negotiations for Højlund and Vlahovic stalled, the Rossoneri quietly advanced discussions with Boniface behind the scenes.

Sky Italia has reported growing optimism in Milan that the transfer will be completed quickly, while German journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed that Leverkusen are “leaning towards yes” due to the player’s strong desire to move to Serie A.
Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio also described Milan’s proposal as “decisive,” with both clubs now weighing the final structure of the deal.
Boniface, who scored 11 Bundesliga goals and registered one assist last season, was a key part of Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen side.
Known for his pace, pressing and physical presence, the striker is seen by Milan as the ideal fit to spearhead their attack under Massimiliano Allegri.
If finalised, the move would represent a significant shift in Milan’s transfer strategy, as the Serie A giants prepare for a new era with one of Africa’s most promising attacking talents leading the line.
