ADC Faction Warns Abdullahi: Stop Parading Yourself as Party Spokesperson

The Nafiu Bala-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned Bolaji Abdullahi, former Minister of Sports and party spokesperson, against presenting himself as the official voice of the party.

In a statement on Thursday, August 28, Dr. Christopher O. Okechukwu, Director of Media and Public Affairs in the factional chairman’s office, said Abdullahi’s claim is “misleading, unauthorised, and a violation of established party protocols.”

Okechukwu explained that the party maintains strict procedures for appointing officials to critical roles.

“It has come to our attention that Malam Bolaji Abdullahi has been presenting himself as the Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson of the ADC.

“This assertion is not only misleading but also a violation of the established protocols that govern the appointment of individuals to such critical positions within our party,” he said.

He outlined the party’s requirements for the role: candidates must be active, registered members; secure nominations from at least three members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory; and be elected at the National Convention.

“In light of these criteria, it is clear that Malam Bolaji Abdullahi does not meet the necessary requirements to serve as the Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson of the ADC,” Okechukwu said.

The statement urged Abdullahi to immediately stop using the ADC’s name and title without authorisation, warning that such actions undermine the party’s credibility. Media organisations were also called on to avoid recognising him as an official spokesperson.

Okechukwu added: “By refraining from recognising Malam Bolaji Abdullahi as an official spokesperson, media outlets will help maintain the accuracy, authenticity, and reliability of their reporting.”

The ADC faction reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, democratic governance, and service to Nigerians.

The internal party crisis escalated on Wednesday when Bala resumed at the party headquarters.
